Good For The Plot

When faced with a personal decision, the best choice is often the one with the most narrative potential.

That choice will tend to involve risk, motion and uncertainty. The scale isn't important. It could be significant:

  • Drop out of university
  • Change careers
  • Move to a foreign country

Or mundane:

  • Go on the last-minute surf trip
  • Volunteer at the community kitchen
  • Find your way back without a map

You might notice that these all involve Doing The Thing. You open yourself up to serendipity, to whatever twists and turns might arise. Above all, you add something to the story.

You'll forget facts and data, but not how you felt, or how the story went.
